The Art Update Week 14
What's Happening:
Hello, gorgeous reader.
As promised, here is your monthly Art Update, arriving on the first Friday of the month.
Last week, I tried a little experiment. After spending weeks feeling bogged down by my various paintings, I started to feel like I was running in place creatively. So, I put everything down, grabbed a fresh canvas, and challenged myself to finish an entire painting in three days.
The goal was to practice working quickly, making decisions without overthinking them, and releasing some of the perfectionism I tend to bring to every tiny detail.
I am also in the process of switching the type of paint I use, so this felt like a good opportunity to test a few new tubes and get a feel for them without putting too much pressure on the outcome.
So, bada bing, bada boom, a new, quick painting.

This floor took the longest, but it was worth it. My hands are stronger for it.

The bed was a fun little piece that I painted separately on watercolor paper and collaged onto the canvas at the end.
I ultimately decided to change the background boarder from yellow to blue, which caused some minor sadness among the people who really loved the yellow.

The blue came out shockingly bright, which is part of working with unfamiliar paints, I suppose. But I do like the contrast between the crisp lines of the bed and the softer brushwork of the bedding.
This piece will be available as a partial custom painting. The room is finished, but you will get to help complete its story. If you want your dog or cat sleeping on the bed, a little table holding your favorite book, or a funky lamp tucked into the corner, I can add those details just for you.
A little blog update: Substack
I am also starting to share these posts on Substack. I will continue posting everything here on my website, but moving forward, the only blog post I will send to this email list will be the monthly Art Update.
If you want to receive my other writing too, including creative ponderings, stories and background behind new work, and deeper looks into my process, head over to Substack and subscribe. You will receive an email whenever I publish something new, and everything will be free to read.
I also think Substack is better suited for conversations and interaction, especially when it comes to the pondering posts. I would genuinely love to hear your thoughts on the topics circling through the art atmosphere. These questions rarely have one clear answer, and I am curious about how your experiences might shape the way you see them.
Basically, the monthly Art Update will continue arriving here as promised. If you want the extra thoughts rattling around in my brain between updates, and you want to join the conversation, come find me on Substack.
