The Art Update Week 13
As things tend to go in summer, time flew by without waiting for me. Trying to hold on to everything on my to-do list became a little too precarious, and a few things had to be put down, the weekly blog being one of them.
After some reflection, I’ve decided to switch to a monthly schedule. Moving forward, I’ll be posting here on the first Friday of every month. I think this will create space for more thoughtful content and more finished pieces to share.
Rather than attempting a three-month recap, I’m going to share a little about the painting I’m currently working on.
The painting is still taking shape, awaiting fabric, texture, and a collaged horse, or maybe several horses. That part is still evolving.

The working statement for the painting is below: everything in my studio is ever evolving at the moment.

"This painting explores the internal, and sometimes external, push and pull of change, and the way conflicting emotions can become intertwined.
In folklore, both horses and birds appear as carriers. Horses carry the body forward: across land, through hardship, and from one place or stage of life into another. Birds carry what cannot be held physically: messages, spirits, memories, and meaning between the earthly and unseen worlds.
Here, the horse represents the heavy, grounded side of change, moving steadily toward the inevitable. The small birds embody its quicker, more unsettled feeling, fluttering in the chest, catching in the throat, and moving too rapidly to follow.
Both are carrying us toward the same inevitable finish line, even when the race itself feels chaotic."

The tediousness and necessary perfection of the details in this painting have kept my hand cramped and my eyes dry, but we are getting closer and closer to a finished piece every day.

This painting is still evolving, so stay tuned for the finished piece next month!
